about

This debut solo release is comprised of songs Annette wrote in the aftermath of a concussion that forced her to look inward and face suppressed emotions after a long illness. Track Name: Cedar Box
When I sat at my daddy’s knee
I learned the strength of honesty.
And more that the Good Book has
I learned from both the good and bad.
As a child in my mother’s arms
I was taught we should do no harm.
And as a youth it simplified
The way that I would live my life.

Lay me down in a Cedar Box.
Send me home without a fuss.
All the riches here on earth
do not define my total worth.

As a youth I was terrified
to not fit in, yet stay dignified.
There were things that mattered more to me.
Like family, home, and being free.

Lay me down in a Cedar Box.
Send me home without a fuss.
All the riches here on earth
do not define my total worth.

And now I’ve faced death once or twice.
And I can look back with a smile.
As I was taught to live with grace
I’ll meet my maker face to face.

Lay me down in a Cedar Box.
Send me home without a fuss.
All the riches here on earth
do not define my total worth.

Angels fly without warning.

Take me down where the air blows free.
Where water runs clear and the grass is green.
If I should die before I wake
I pray to the Lord my soul he takes.
I pray my dear Lord my soul you take.

Lay me down in a Cedar Box.
Send me home without a fuss.
All the riches here on earth
do not define my total worth.
Track Name: Live Like An Angel
I have longed for death and darkness.
I have risen out of hell.
I have raked the coals of ages.
I have stories more to tell.

We have all shed tears in mourning.
We have all cried out in joy.
We have stumbled through the sorrow.
We have seen life destroyed.

When we feel a battle rising
we’ll fight daemons you cannot see.
As long as we remain unbroken
we stand strong an eternity.

Now you have listened to my story.
Now you know what I’ve to say.
You can live life like you’re an angel
or you can fall deep into disgrace.

Fly like you’re an angel.
Fly like you have wings.
Fly like you’re an angel.
Let the world hear you sing.
Track Name: Life, Death, and the Spaces Between
There are undefined moments of crises.
There are monumental moments of joy.
There are times we can’t believe
the things we have seen,

And then there’s life, death, and the spaces between.
And then there’s life, death, and the spaces between.

We’ve walked that line in between you and me.
The trouble is,
we coexist with one another.
We tolerate and live with hate,
we don’t engage our rage
for fear of unleashing monsters.

There are undefined moments of crises.
There are monumental moments of joy.
There are times we can’t believe
the things we have seen,

And then there’s life, death, and the spaces between.
And then there’s life, death, and the spaces between.

We’re on the tightrope once again, me and you.
If we resist along the way then we get anxious.
Ghosts whisper in our ears,
their words mingle through our tears.
and suddenly life is more precious.

There are undefined moments of crises.
There are monumental moments of joy.
There are times we can’t believe
the things we have seen.

And then there’s life, death, and the spaces between.
And then there’s life, death, and the spaces between.
Track Name: First Suicide
We sat on the floor watching dust fairies swirl in the light. We had a bottle of Bailey’s and a pack of cloves for the night. You were king of the gypsies, your hair looked like a robin’s wing. When you introduced Bauhaus they practically kissed your ring.

I knew how it was going to play out before you dropped that needle down. Now I could sing it in your sleep, that’s how well I know that song.

But you’re no longer around
and I can’t even weep.
After your first suicide,
a part of you dies in your sleep.

You wore a sunflower on your head and a smile upon your face. Your laughter was infectious and you never seemed out of place. You were the reigning queen, but you never even knew. When your mother died I guess something broke in you.

The last time I saw you there were bags on both
of your hands. I shut both my eyes and I buried my face in my hands.

But you’re no longer around
and I can’t even weep.
After your first suicide,
a part of you dies in your sleep.

You were a troubadour with a gentle and fragile soul. You reached out to me when my own life was in a turmoil. The monarch of our LA songwriter’s scene. You could make us laugh ,or you could make us sigh, or scream.

I am glad you three will forever, never be apart. And I will always cherish the last note you sent, signed with a heart.

But you’re no longer around
and I can’t even weep.
After your first suicide,
a part of you dies in your sleep.
After your first suicide,
a part of you dies in your sleep.
Track Name: Signed, Love Me
I hope you know I love you.
I hope that you know that your love
means more than everything to me.
Some days I may not tell you,
Some nights I may not hold you close
when you drift off to sleep.

And so I’ve penned this letter.
But I hope that it’s a note
that you will never need to read.

When I go to heaven
you’ll find this note locked in a box,
so I’m giving you the key.

It’s signed,
love me.
Signed, love me.

I hope that you don’t die before me.
I hope that you will never, never, ever, ever leave.
I guess that makes me selfish.
I guess that makes me
scared of my heart breaking.

It is more than just about me.
It’s that only half of us
is so hard to conceive.

I’ll wait for you in heaven.
I’ll hold your place on this side of eternity.
You’ll find this note locked in a box,
so don’t you lose the key.

It’s signed
love me.
Signed, love me.

Love me.
Track Name: Fell
Tell me why, I don’t believe you,
you send me flowers each and every day.
Tell me why, I don’t believe you,
you made it snow in the month of May.

Whoa, whoa, what is this?
Whoa, whoa, what is this?

You fell to the earth
like a leaf hits the ground.
Spinning from heaven
with stars all around.
You came from above

and you never made a sound,
and your feet never touched the ground.

Tell me why, I can’t conceive you,
is it harder to see you in my dreams?
Tell me why, I won’t receive you,
when you’re standing right in front of me?

Whoa, whoa, what is this?
Whoa, whoa, what is this?

You fell to the earth
like a leaf hits the ground.
Spinning from heaven
with stars all around.
You came from above

and you never made a sound,
and your feet never touched the ground.

And you fell from the sky
like a bird in the night.
Like a little lost dove
who was lost in her flight.
But you weren’t lost
was it me that was found?
as your feet never touched the ground.

Whoa, whoa, what is this?

You fell to the earth
like a leaf hits the ground.
Spinning from heaven
with stars all around.
You came from above

and you never made a sound,
and your feet never touched the ground.
Track Name: Without You
Without you,
there would be no me.
There would be no he, no she,
and no, there would not be a we.

Without you,
there would be no calm.
There would be no safe harbor nor shelter in your arms.

You give me hope.
You give me reason.
You give me sanity
to survive in a world that’s gone wrong.
You gave me strength.
You gave me character.
You gave me everything I need to carry on.
You gave me everything I need to carry on.

Without you,
there would be no chance.
There would be no last, no first, no future, and no past.

Without you,
there would be no faith.
There would be no courage, or honor,
I would have not known the way.

You give me hope.
You give me reason.
You give me sanity
to survive in a world that’s gone wrong.
You gave me strength.
You gave me character.
You gave me everything I need to carry on.
You gave me everything I need to carry on.

Because of you,
there will always be an us.
There will always be laughter, joy,
and there will always be love.
There will always be laughter, joy,
and there will always be love.

Even without you, there will always be love.
Yeah, because of you, there will always be love.
There will always be laughter, joy,
and there will always be love.
Track Name: Faceless Angel
Faceless Angel, tell me what you see.
Faceless Angel, if you were given eyes like me.
When I close my eyes I see your smile
looking down on me.
What do you see when you look back at me?

We suffer our discomfort
in many different ways.
Some fight back, some scream out,
some hold their tears and pray.
We may not need a savior,
but we do need to be saved

We challenge every moment
and push beyond our shame.
Some grow up, some stay half-grown,
some are just depraved.
We may not need a savior,
but we do need to be saved.

Faceless Angel, tell me what you see.
Faceless Angel, if you were given eyes like me.
When I close my eyes I see your smile
looking down on me.
What do you see when you look back at me?

We disavow rejection, an agonizing trait.
Some hold on, some let go,
some just walk away.
We may not need a savior,
but we do need to be saved.

We cling to our misfortunes
as if they were a break.
Some find luck, some find love,
some have lost their way.
We may not need a savior,
but we do need to be saved

Faceless Angel, tell me what you see.
Faceless Angel, if you were given eyes like me.
When I close my eyes I see your smile
looking down on me.
What do you see when you look back at me?

What do you see? What do you see? Oh...
What do you see when you look back at me?
Tell me what you see, when you look back at me?
Track Name: Rodeo
She got new shoes
to make her cowboy-proof
and help her breakthrough,
maybe find the truth
and to help her fall in love,
but she didn’t understand.

She had misconstrued all throughout her youth.
It was no excuse but she would not let loose
of her doubts and fears, all throughout the years.

In her dreams she would go downtown,
for another round.
when she was feeling down,
she would mess around, to find love.

There’d be no more sleepless nights,
someone to hold her tight,
someone to kiss goodbye, someone she’d really like.
But she would never know, she’d never go to that rodeo.

She thought those new shoes
would make her bullet-proof,
and help her undo
all she’d got herself into.
But it did not quite turn out
as she had planned.

She was overdue for a rendezvous.
What she never knew
is she could have been seduced by another man,
if she only gave him a chance.

In her dreams she would go downtown,
for another round.
When she was feeling down,
she would mess around, to find love.

There’d be no more sleepless nights,
someone to hold her tight,
someone to kiss goodbye, someone she’d really like.
But she would never know, she’d never go to that rodeo.

Awe, she never should have gotten those shoes!

In her dreams she would go downtown,
for another round.
When she was feeling down,
she would mess around, to find love.

There’d be no more sleepless nights,
someone to hold her tight,
someone to kiss goodbye, someone she’d really like.
But she would never know, she’d never go to that rodeo.

To that rodeo, oh oh!
Track Name: Ten Thousand Steps
It’s 10,000 steps to glory.
10,000 steps away from pain.
5 miles of hope,
5 miles of joy,
and suddenly I’m back on the road again.

It’s been two years since I saw my daddy cry.
Two years since they said that I might die.
I’ve been fighting hard,
to keep living stronger.
Now I’m grateful for every second of this life.

It’s 10,000 steps to glory.
10,000 steps away from pain.
5 miles to know,
5 miles to grow,
and suddenly I’m back on the road again.

There is pain and sorrow everywhere we turn.
When we are scared the fear begins to burn.
But we are warriors inside,
lucky when we can fight.
Ever thankful for love flowing with concern.

It’s 10,000 steps to glory.
10,000 steps away from pain.
5 miles of hope,
5 miles of joy,
and suddenly I’m back on the road again.
5 miles to know,
5 miles to grow,
and suddenly I’m back on the road again.
5 miles to see,
5 miles I’m free,
and suddenly I’m back on the road again.

Doot doot doot
and suddenly I’m back on the road again.

Track Name: That's The Way It Goes
You like coffee, I like tea,
come on have a drink with me.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
You like meat, and I like greens,

let’s find something in between.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.

So your hat’s black ‘nd my hat’s white,
that don’t mean we have to fight.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.

I like this and you like that,
and we just have to accept that’s that.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
‘Cuz that the way it goes,
that’s the way it goes, that’s the way it goes.

I like country, you like rock,
at least we both agree on Bach.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
You like mornin’ and I like night,
but afternoons are quite alright.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
I like cats and you like dogs,
it’s a wonder we can get along.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.

I like this and you like that,
and we just have to accept that’s that.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
‘Cuz that the way it goes,

that’s the way it goes, that’s the way it goes.

I like books, and you like sports,
it’s good that we are different sorts.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
You like to float and I like laps,
but we both can agree on naps.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
I like socks to your bare-feet,
but I like you more in my bed sheets.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.

I like this and you like that,
and we just have to accept that’s that.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
‘Cuz that the way it goes,
That’s the way it goes, that’s the way it goes.
Track Name: Canyon Winds
I don’t mind the warm winds down the canyon,
and I don’t mind the cold winds from up North.
And I don’t mind the rain
when my companion
keeps me close at night
and holds me safe and warm.

Canyon Winds,
as you rage into the night
we huddle with our backs against the wall.
Canyon Winds,
when you’ve given up the fight.
you’ve warmed us
now the rains begin to fall.

I don’t mind not knowing where I’m headed,
and I don’t mind just heading out alone.
And I don’t mind if the path I take has ended.
Those winds come along and
push me down another road.

Canyon Winds,
as you rage into the night
we huddle with our backs against the wall.
Canyon Winds,
when you’ve given up the fight.
you’ve warmed us
now the rains begin to fall.

I don’t mind the struggles that life throws me,
and I don’t mind the fear of the unknown.
And I don’t mind the whistling of the canyon,
I sometimes even try to sing along.

Ooh, as you blow,
Ooh, I shall go,
Ooh, as you blow,
I shall grow.

Canyon Winds,
as you rage into the night
we huddle with our backs against the wall.
Canyon Winds,
when you’ve given up the fight.
you’ve warmed us
now the rains begin to fall.
Track Name: Off The Rails
There is trouble in your eyes,

I can see it in your lies,
I can hear it in your footsteps echoed in the hall.

There is trouble when you call,
and I worry you will fall
once again into the same old trap again.

Ooh ooh
And all the colors in my sky grow pale,
when you go off the rails.

There is trouble all around,
and I fear you know no boundaries,
or have shed them as a snake has shed his skin.

There is trouble underneath,
and it is hard to find some peace,
when I’m afraid of what the devil has let in.

Ooh ooh

And all the colors in my sky grow pale,
When you go off the rails.

There is trouble in my mind,
for I fear you are behind,
in what life can offer when you let it in.

There is trouble in my heart,
because when we are apart,
I can’t help you, but I am with you to the end.

Ooh ooh

And all the colors in my sky grow pale,
When you go off the rails.
Track Name: You Gave Me Wings
I’ve learned that happiness is found in the smallest of things.

That strength can be found in a butterfly’s wings.
That believing in someone is the best gift you can bring.
And I’ve learned it all from you.

You’ve taught me these lessons in your own quiet way.
With power, and grace, and a smile upon your face.
You’ve set an example since the very first day.
And I’ve learned it all from you.

You lift me up every time I fall.
You make me laugh every time I call.
You’ve made me strong so I can stand tall.

You gave me wings...

You show valor, bravery, and courage as your truth.
You’ve show kindness to friends and strangers
when no one would.
The example to try harder when times are tough.
And I’ve learned it all from you.

You taught me how to fly
in your arms above your head.
You’ve taught me how to face things,
even if it’s something that I dread.
So strong and true,
I’ve done my best to follow your lead.
And I’ve learned it all from you.

You lift me up every time I fall,
You make me laugh every time I call,
You’ve made me strong so I can stand tall.
Track Name: Sweet Sophia
I watch you sleep,
and my heart skips a beat.
When you walk past me
I turn, not so discretely,
to play it back in my mind like you’re on repeat.
And I know these images I will not delete.

I lie awake, and I listen to you breathe.
I count your breaths,
as they match to my heartbeat.
I scratch your chin,
as you snuggle next to me,
and I know now that I’m making memories.

There’s not enough ways
to not feel the ache I feel.
The sorrow of tomorrow
already feels too real.
And if I found a way to numb myself
then what would I conceal?
For my heart is broken-hearted
and I doubt that it will heal.

I count the days, as they roll by steadily.
They could go slower, so
there’d be more time that we
could be together, and share our last few days,
just moving slowly, in the California haze.

There’s not enough ways
to not feel the ache I feel.
The sorrow of tomorrow
already feels too real.
And if I found a way to numb myself
then what would I conceal?
For my heart is broken-hearted
and I doubt that it will heal.

And if I found a way to numb myself
then what would I conceal?
For my heart is broken-hearted
and I doubt that it will heal.

I lie awake, and I listen to you breathe.
