about

Over the course of my life I've lost three friends to suicide. One of them the same day as the day I suffered the concussion. This loss triggered thoughts of remembering my friends.

lyrics

We sat on the floor watching dust fairies swirl in the light. We had a bottle of Bailey’s and a pack of cloves for the night. You were king of the gypsies, your hair looked like a robin’s wing. When you introduced Bauhaus they practically kissed your ring.

I knew how it was going to play out before you dropped that needle down. Now I could sing it in your sleep, that’s how well I know that song.

But you’re no longer around
and I can’t even weep.
After your first suicide,
a part of you dies in your sleep.

You wore a sunflower on your head and a smile upon your face. Your laughter was infectious and you never seemed out of place. You were the reigning queen, but you never even knew. When your mother died I guess something broke in you.

The last time I saw you there were bags on both
of your hands. I shut both my eyes and I buried my face in my hands.

But you’re no longer around
and I can’t even weep.
After your first suicide,
a part of you dies in your sleep.

You were a troubadour with a gentle and fragile soul. You reached out to me when my own life was in a turmoil. The monarch of our LA songwriter’s scene. You could make us laugh ,or you could make us sigh, or scream.

I am glad you three will forever, never be apart. And I will always cherish the last note you sent, signed with a heart.

But you’re no longer around
and I can’t even weep.
After your first suicide,
a part of you dies in your sleep.
After your first suicide,
a part of you dies in your sleep.
